The Preserve Golf Club is rated the #2 Best Course You Can Play in Mississippi for 2013 by GolfWeek. “All of us here at The Preserve are honored to have received this prestigious rating in the May 3rd issue of GolfWeek’s Best Courses You Can Play publication,” said Director of Golf Operations, Stephen Miles.
An amenity of the Palace Casino Resort in Biloxi, The Preserve Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-71 championship golf course, open to the public. The course is located just minutes from Biloxi. But, it feels a million miles away from it all. The Preserve Golf Club offers golf the way nature intended…. uninterrupted, undisturbed, unparalleled, unbelievable! That’s what you’ll find at former U.S. Open Champion Jerry Pate’s creation, The Preserve Golf Club in Vancleave, Miss.
Eighteen hundred acres of federal nature preserve envelop this 245-acre course, protecting it forever from the disturbances of development. The sanctity of the dedicated preserve flows onto the Tidwarf greens, and its spectacular native species are carefully integrated into the layout of the course.
Mossy, majestic live oaks reach out over the course and tall, slender long leaf pines line the generous fairways. Wild, wiry grasses disperse texture and color against the smooth, rolling greens. The uniquely Southern cypress swamps, marshy wetlands and pitcher plant bogs scatter the area, adding diversity to the landscape and challenge to the game.
Preserve’s Head P.G.A. Professional, Chris Champagne, commented “Jerry worked skillfully with the land, while keeping the nature and wildlife in mind. What he left us with is an amazing mixture of long and short holes surrounded by pure nature.”
While keeping the surrounding pure and untouched is of utmost importance at the Preserve, keeping the course immaculately maintained and carefully conditioned is of great concern too. The greens are hand-mowed, the white sand bunkers are hand-raked daily, and in the winter, the greens are covered to keep the putting surface true and consistent.
This close attention to detail can be seen in every aspect of the Preserve…from the layout, to the maintenance, to the facilities, to the truly Southern hospitality and service.
Champagne says, “We are dedicated to making each guest’s visit the ultimate golf experience. Our amenities are top of the line, and our attentive, knowledgeable staff is here to cater to your every need.”
The Preserve Golf Club’s new carts feature a GPS Visage system. The full-featured mobile golf information system allows golfers to listen to an expert’s hole by hole description of the course with tips on how to play before teeing off. It delivers precise distance measurements, shot by shot assistance, familiar touch screen technology, available hole flyovers, navigation, an instant contact with our pro shop. After your round of golf, Visage can even email the scorecard for the golfer’s recordkeeping. Once you play at the Preserve with the assistance of the GPS Visage system, you will never want to play without it.
Hidden ten-foot cart paths provide discreet access around the course, to the 10,000-square-foot putting green or to the clubhouse. Wooden accessories keep with the natural look of the course, and heated restrooms will be welcomed on chilly mornings. Stacked balls on the driving range, bottled water on the carts, and chilled towels on hot days are among the many special touches provided for the guests.
Suitably situated in these pristine Southern surroundings, overlooking the lake and eighteenth hole, is the 8,500-square-foot clubhouse, designed in the classic low country style. Vaulted ceilings, an abundance of windows and a large covered patio provide excellent vantage points for viewing the competition. Hardwood floors and chandeliers add hints of southern charm and sophistication. And, plush furnishing and a large indoor/outdoor stone fireplace provide comfort while sipping cocktails or enjoying a bite to eat from Sweetbay Restaurant.

Palace Casino Resort in Biloxi, Miss. has completed a multi-million dollar renovation of its hotel rooms and suites. The project follows the 2010/2011 expansion and renovation of the casino, restaurants and other amenities. The entire resort has now been upgraded, resulting in a clean, fresh, smoke free environment, the only smoke free casino resort on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The 236 hotel rooms, including 14 suites, all received a complete transformation, resulting in a contemporary, comfortable setting that is consistent with the rest of the resort. The new design carries into the hallways, elevator corridors and suite level concierge lounge.
From the floor to the ceiling, everything is new. The warm neutral palette is accented with carefully placed pops of color, and sculptured carpet combines the colors into interesting patterns. The multifunctional furniture features clean lines and simple silhouettes, giving the rooms a spacious, clutter-free feel. Built-in benches extend from the dressers, acting as extra seating, as well as sturdy luggage stands. The beds are covered with comfortable new linens and feature decorative headboards with integrated lighting.
The rooms have also been updated with the latest flat-screen televisions which include game and movie rentals. Refrigerators are concealed within the dressers of every room and suite.
Adding Southern ambiance to every room and elevator foyer are black and white images by local photographers, Ken Murphy and Steve White. Murphy has gained great acclaim for his work and has published two books, “My South Coast Home,” which captures the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and “Mississippi, Photographs by Ken Murphy,” an unprecedented look at the entire state. White’s photography focuses on coastal wildlife, including our barrier islands. His work has been featured in Coast galleries, museums and magazines.
The artwork and clean design are carried into the new bathrooms. Mosaic tile, granite counters and modern fixtures are consistent with the sleek minimalist style.
From room to room, the color palette and artwork differ slightly, giving guests a unique experience each time they visit. The spacious suites include updated seating areas, kitchenettes and bars, in addition to the regular room features.
Keith Crosby, general manager of Palace Casino Resort, says, “The room renovations complete the transformation of our property. Our associates are very proud of our newly renovated resort, and it is reflected in their attitudes and level of service. We are all very pleased to provide our guests with a more relaxing, accommodating gaming getaway.”

February 15, 2013, Biloxi, MS --- Tyler M. of Michigan won $7, 217,175.15 playing The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship progressive penny slot machine at Palace Casino Resort on February 15, 2013. Tyler, who typically plays craps, felt compelled to try his luck on the penny slot machine in memory of a friend whose funeral he attended earlier in the day. Tyler stated his friend enjoyed playing penny slots at the Palace, so he chose to visit the casino and play penny slots.
When asked what his first thought was after realizing he had won over $7 million dollars, Tyler said he felt his friend was watching over him and had blessed him with the big win. Tyler’s wife, Mary, commented they would pay off the new car they had just purchased earlier this week in order to be able to make the trip to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. They were concerned about driving their previous car such a long distance because it had been driven over 200,000 miles. Beyond paying off their new car, Tyler and Mary said they will spend some of the money on their children, granddaughter and their soon to be new grandbaby, and repair the roof of their weathervane and house number manufacturing business.
The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship is a Mississippi state-wide progressive penny slot machine with a max bet of $3.50. The WMS Gaming Inc. manufactured slot machine’s progressive jackpot resets at $200,000.
Palace Casino Resort, Mississippi’s only smoke free casino, is located just two blocks off Highway 90/Beach Blvd. at 158 Howard Avenue in Biloxi, Mississippi.
